We have been conditioned from a young age to view the world in a certain way and this has influenced our thoughts, beliefs, rules and perceptions.
Perceptions – are opinions of what we believe to be true
These perceptions whether right or wrong determine how we see ourselves, others and the world around us. Perceptions are only true for the person who believes in them.
So ask yourself:
- What are my perceptions?
- Are they linked to my truth?
- Are they serving my happiness?
Because a lot of the perceptions we have about ourselves and the world were created when we were a child (when our logic centre of the brain wasn’t fully formed) and these may have turned into limiting beliefs that don’t serve our wellbeing and current lifestyle.
By using mindfulness we wake up and realise our reality has been determined by our culture, our family, our education and the exposure we have had to a variety of sensory experiences over our life time.
We start to become aware that the perceptions we have about ourselves, others and the world are not necessarily true or serving us. The good thing is, is that we can bend and change our reality if we choose to.
Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact.
Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.Marcus Aurelius
Through the practice of mindfulness meditations such as an Open Awareness Practice, we can start to focus on and witness these thought patterns and allow them to pass by like clouds in the sky.
When we become the observer and notice that we are under the influence of false perceptions that are affecting our reality we then become ready to see the culturescape that has influenced our life and decisions, this awakening gives us the power to control our reality as we get to decide what we want to believe in.
When this transition occurs, it creates an open awareness and spaciousness and we see life is malleable and impermanent and it empowers us to live our truth regardless of what anyone says. When we see things from this point of attraction we open our mind to greater possibilities and opportunities rather than sitting in a rigid and limiting mindset.
In life it’s important to go beyond society’s conditioning and be the Hero in our story, have the bravery to create our own path and live in truth with our authentic self. As when we share our vibe, we will attract our tribe!
Now is the time to become a perception detective! We can do this by being curious and asking questions. Everytime we have a thought, belief, rule or perception come to the forefront of our minds – start asking:
- Why do I believe this thought/belief/rule/perception is true for me?
- How would I feel if I no longer believed in this?
The answers to these questions will start to bring an awareness to the lives we have been living and how we have been living them. This then gives us the opportunity to decide what we want to believe in and how we want to live our lives. The power is now in our hands.
