We all struggle with accepting who we are (who we truly are!) and we usually show the world the good parts (the light) and hide away the bad parts (the darkness) as we want to be liked, we want to fit in and we want to feel accepted.
All humans have both light and darkness and this is what makes us unique.
To accept that you can be the most loving, giving human who wouldn’t hurt a fly is easy to do. But to be able to acknowledge that in the right circumstances you could actually kill someone is very confronting to realise.
When we can fully acknowledge and accept the light and darkness within ourselves and still love all that we are – we find freedom. Freedom to be our true selves with no shame, guilt, questioning or doubting.
This journey of following our true self is not common in society and we will find ourself on the outside of what is considered the norm. But the longer we journey the more we realise that when we awaken to our truth, we find clarity and direction but at the same time we find bewilderment.
We start to feel confused as to why everyone is living in darkness and hiding their true selves and we want to share with them that living in the light by accepting your whole self is so freeing and empowering.
With this new seat of awareness it becomes apparent to us that every living being is having their own journey in this time, space and reality and we can’t push our truth onto them, nor can we change or alter their thoughts and at times this can be frustrating.
We realise that all we can do is live our life in truth and accept all that we are and hope that this shines the light of awareness to those we love and care for.
Sometimes we can feel confused and lonely because we are coming up against challenging old beliefs and there’s no one in our inner circle to turn to. At these times we need to go within, which can be quite confronting as we witness the contrast, the duality of this life experience and start to notice what we want and don’t want in our life.
These periods of time give us the opportunity to do some self- reflection and can help us determine our purpose and why living our true self is important to our well being and authenticity.
Using Mindfulness at these times allows us to be present in each moment, with each thought, with each belief and it allows us to see with clarity and question what society says is the ‘norm.’ It allows us to see our light and darkness without judgement.
When we become aware of these realities, it can push us to the edge of comfort but it also gives us the opportunity to show up and be present with whatever we are feeling about our self.
By practicing non- judgement, compassion and kindness we develop a sense of empathy and realise there is no right or wrong way to be and learn to accept the light and dark that is within us and others.
In this lifetime, all we can do is be true to our self and follow the path of least resistance as we unravel the light and shade of the Matrix we live in.
