Yvette has had a passion for pregnancy and birth for over 15 years after an ‘Aha’ moment in her mid 20’s ignited the drive to be involved in the magic of childbirth. Becoming a self-confessed ‘birth junkie’ she has spent many years studying, researching and talking to hundreds of couples about their experiences of birth.
When it came time to plan for the birth of her first child she knew that the better prepared she was the easier it would be and attended three different types of childbirth classes. After experiencing a long but empowering, natural hospital birth of her beautiful boy, she realised her success had come from being knowledgeable about the birth process, that she had prepared her mind, body and baby, had many different pain management skills, that she trusted her body and laboured in a way that was right for her, knew how to stand up for her choices and that her husband had been an effective support.
After such a positive birth experience, she became even more addicted to the idea of helping couples through such an important moment in their lives. Then after her obstetrician and midwife said that the way she birthed could inspire others and that she should be teaching birth classes, she made a commitment to do just that!
The birth of her precious second son was also amazing. She was even more informed, skilled, prepared, inspired, motivated, supported and relaxed which all paid off in an incredible water birth, also in hospital.
After both her birth experiences Yvette realised that through her preparation and during labour she didn’t just use one birthing methodology or one type of skill but instead picked a variety that worked for her.
She was also now concerned that many women and their birth partners could not speak of their experience of birth in the same positive, joyful way that she could. Many having disappointing and even traumatic experiences.
From these thoughts and through studying a Diploma in Childbirth Education with Childbirth International and looking at the common elements in thousands of positive birth stories and experiences, the idea for a new birthing method was born.
The Positive Birth Formula focuses on the best evidence based practice and is structured around 7 essential elements to creating a safer, easier more joyful birth: Be Informed, Be Motivated, Be Supported, Be Prepared, Be Inspired, Be Skilled, Be Relaxed. In each of the elements Yvette helps couples to discover and choose the techniques and options that resonate with them. In other words she is empowering women and their birth partners on THEIR path to a positive birth.
Yvette has a back ground in education, dance, teaching movement as a healing tool, sales and marketing and working in the maternity wear industry but knows that being part of a revolution that passes on positive messages about birth to the next generation is her life’s calling.
Yvette truly believes women and their birth partners can have an experience worth remembering and is honoured to share in the incredible journey of the birth of a child and the beginning of parenthood.
