Paul is a qualified Kundalini Yoga teacher, certified by the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI). He is a member of the Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association Australia and New Zealand (KYTANZ), and the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA).
He practised various forms of yoga for many years before discovering Kundalini Yoga in 2007. Paul noticed that he felt better after his first three sessions than he’d ever felt before and was drawn to train as a teacher in 2009. He has run classes ever since. He also contributes to the Kundalini Yoga community by providing live music and gong sessions at events throughout Australia.
Part of the attraction of Kundalini Yoga for Paul is that it incorporates the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of yoga into one cohesive and integrated system. It has a broad emphasis on breathing, meditation, hand positions (mudras), mantras and spirituality. The practice is said to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand the lung capacity, and purify the bloodstream. It aims to help you harness the energy of your mind and emotions, so you can be in control of yourself rather than being controlled by your thoughts and feelings. Along with physical strength and stamina, it builds inner strength and self awareness so you can fulfil your highest potential.
One of the delights of teaching Kundalini Yoga is the strong sense of community that surrounds this practice. Events range from group sadhana (early morning sessions) and kirtan – fun and reverent songfests – to workshops and gong sessions. A highlight is the bi-annual Australian Kundalini Yoga festival, which brings the whole community together for a weekend of yoga, music, celebration, great food and friendship.
Paul feels that passing on the practice of Kundalini Yoga is a great privilege, and is grateful for the opportunity to teach in such a welcoming and community-minded setting as The Garden.
Kundalini Yoga classes are on Wednesday’s at 7pm
